About the Role

We are currently seeking enthusiastic, upbeat Support Worker(s) to join our Services team. This role aims to support clients in both our Aged care/Dementia Cottages and our Disability day program. 

Our “home away from home respite Cottages” operate 24 hours a day 7 days a week for people who are frail of aged or living with Dementia. Our locations are in Issacs and Deakin with 2 large 5-bedroom homes with generous tranquil gardens and even ducks and chickens! We host a combination of exciting day program activities within our settings for our overnight guests and those attending the day programs. 

The general shifts for our Cottage settings are: 7am-3:15pm, 3:00pm-11:15pm active night shift 11:00pm-7:15am. Along with our Monday to Friday 9:00am-5:00pm weekday shifts. 

Our Cottages operate under a low care model and support participants to retain their independence and skill set.

Our Disability day program operates Monday to Friday 9:00am-4:30pm at out Holt location for people living with Mild to moderate intellectual or physical disabilities. 

The program operates both out in the community and here at our centre in Holt. The successful applicant will work alongside a Team to create a fun and welcoming environment for the recipients, to work towards achieving the participants goals. The successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining quality engaged supports throughout our operating hours and may be required to support participants on a 1:1 basis for goal focus time.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will report to the relevant program supervisor and will be responsible for supporting and assisting clients in a range of activities including:

  • Assist participants with social functions and/or activities either during the day or on daily excursions and care for our guest and or participants 
  • Assist participants to participate actively in community, including supporting participants during these activities and developing participants ability to partake in these activities;
  • Support participants with training which will be provided either individually or through group activities and will include daily life activities, communication and social skills and problem solving;
  • Participate in activities that are appropriate for the participants and their environment;
  • Maintain accurate record keeping and quality assurance processes, including progress notes, care plans , behaviour charts and goal progress.
  • Nurture and influence business relationships with internal and external stakeholders, especially carers, clients, other service providers and health workers;
  • Adhere to all Carers ACT policies and procedures, including WHS, manual handling, infection control and food services;
  • Actively encourage and support a seamless service for carers and recipients;
  • Flexibility to carry out other duties as directed by Team Manager and/or Program Supervisor and relevant to the program.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Qualifications and Experience: Minimum Certificate III in Disability or Aged Care or equivalent, previous experience in the sector and an understanding of the My Aged Care landscape. People who have completed 1 yr of Nursing or Allied Health training will also be considered.
  • Team Player: Strong commitment to teamwork, good practice and the ability to work with minimal supervision / direction. 
  • Availability: Flexibility with work hours and broad availability (including over night shifts) and able to work at all three locations – Holt, Deakin and Issacs.
  • Intermediate computer skills or willingness to utilise computer systems as part of documentation processes.
