  • $71,334- $99,252 (pro-rata for part time) + salary packaging + super + 5-6 weeks annual leave

About the role

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated midwife to join our existing supportive Caseload Midwifery team and be a part of our caseload expansion in 2023 including our brand-new home birth program!

The Caseload Midwife must value family centred care and work closely with their team, have good communication skills, and value teamwork to ultimately provide exceptional midwifery care.

We are proud to offer two all-risk models of caseload within The Women’s Hospital, but for this role we are looking for midwives who are passionate about providing exceptional midwifery care to low risk women and families and support our expanding home birth program. A full-time low risk Caseload Midwife will care for up to 45 women per year and at 0.8 EFT the midwife will care for up to 40 women per year, as well as providing back-up and support for the other midwives within the caseload team. Within Caseload Midwifery, care is provided in the antenatal clinic, during labour and birth, postnatal care on the postnatal ward and at home, and this role would also include administrative tasks.

This position involves a large degree of autonomy and has periods of work that are scheduled and unscheduled and requires a commitment to being on-call to provide the best possible continuity of care. In saying this the health and welfare of our midwives is vital and the on call roster will be built to ensure protection of your off call days.

We are seeking motivated midwives with relevant clinical skills and a commitment to provide outstanding midwifery support to women, babies and their families.

 Your duties will include the following:

  • Manage assigned caseload of women in an on call capacity
  • Respect the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of women and significant others in the provision of culturally sensitive midwifery care
  • Working closely within a cohesive caseload group as part of Maternity Services team
  • Work closely with women, babies and families to meet their needs across the continuum
  • Complete assessment of the health status of caseload women by interview and observation
  • Provide evidence based care
  • Assess, plan, develop, implement, document and evaluate midwifery and neonatal care in partnership with the women and other health care professionals
  • Provide health education for women, families, and other family supports

About you

To be successful within this role you will be able to demonstrate competency in the following skills:

  • Providing care across the continuum of midwifery care including routine antenatal visits, antenatal assessment and triage, intra-partum and postnatal care
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including communication, negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of midwifery case in a continuity of carer model, of which focuses on the woman and her family
  • Have experience in IVC insertion, applying Fetal Scalp Electrodes (FSE), Speculum examination and examination of the new born
  • Perineal suturing (or willingness to achieve within 6 months of commencement)

You’ll also need to have:

  • Registration with AHPRA as a Midwife
  • Recently completed FSEP (fetal surveillance education program) face to face professional development- including the exam.
  • Two (2) years or more clinical Midwifery experience across the continuum of midwifery care
  • Commitment to providing care from a Caseload and Team Care philosophy and understanding and acceptance of the rostering and on call arrangements related to the Caseload model.
  • Willingness to participate in quality and/or research projects to improve the standard of midwifery care
  • Willingness to support homebirth and/or provide homebirth within the RWH homebirth guidelines.
  • Current Australian Driver's licence and access to a vehicle.
