Who we are
Discover a 100-year legacy of educational excellence, connection and opportunity at Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS).

CGGS is an independent, non-selective Anglican school. For over a century, it has provided students from across the world with a comprehensive and well-rounded education. Located in the heart of the nation’s capital, and now spanning three campuses, CGGS provides a world-class educational and co-curricular offering.

In working at CGGS, you will be inspired by the founders of Canberra’s first independent school to proudly carry on contributing to a century-long narrative of visionaries, to leave your mark on generations to come. CGGS is where rich heritage meets modern innovation. You will have the chance to combine the prestige and tradition of an iconic institution with the dynamism and creativity of modern education, to offer an educational experience that stands the test of time.

You will work alongside a dedicated team and will feel genuinely supported by a workplace with a proven track record built on respect and autonomy. We are steadfast in our belief that diversity is a strength—we are an inclusive and equitable community where all voices are heard and valued. CGGS embraces internationally-minded teaching and corporate personnel from all walks of life and professional backgrounds. At CGGS you can progress your career with colleagues that that are driven, capable and progressive.

The position
The school is seeking a dedicated and passionate tutor to provide students a supportive and caring space to complete their schoolwork and get a head start on their assessment tasks.  This would suit a new graduate, university student or a retired teacher.  Duties include but are not limited to:

  • assisting students in developing: efficient homework patterns, effective revision plans, time management and organisational skills
  • provide close supervision and monitoring of students during study sessions, ensuring appropriate standards of behaviour and productive use of time

  • answering questions about set homework and helping students understand specific concepts
  • assisting students with tasks while maintaining the academic integrity of the students’ work
  • assisting students in their approach to managing multiple assessment tasks, ensuring they have a plan to complete these in a timely manner
  • monitoring students’ engagement with their academic work
  • reporting any concerns about a student’s behaviour or approach during the study session to the Coordinator of the Evening Study Program

This is a casual role, working as required or to cover absences.  Please include the subjects you are able to tutor in your application.

In addition to the tutoring role, there may also be additional work available as the Evening Studies Coordinator.  Please note that the hourly rate for any subsequent Evening Study Coordinator work will be at a higher rate of pay because of the higher level of responsibility, and you would be supervising other tutors.  Please state in your application if you are willing and able to cover this role casually also.
