Job Description:
As a Cellarman/Houseman in our hostel, you play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of various aspects related to inventory management, housekeeping, and guest services. Your responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks aimed at maintaining efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and guest satisfaction throughout the hostel premises.
Key Responsibilities:
Stock Management:
- Manage stock deliveries and timings for the entire building.
- Order stock as per the hostel's needs, considering quantity, quality, and cost-effectiveness to optimise financial resources.
- Maintain a keen understanding of financial implications, striving to streamline processes and source quality products at competitive prices.
- Oversee the stocking of all linen, chemicals, cleaning supplies, and alcoholic beverages storage areas, ensuring adequate levels are maintained.
Waste Management:
- Take charge of building waste management, implementing efficient disposal procedures to minimise environmental impact and adhere to regulations.
- Monitor waste generation and disposal practices, identifying opportunities for improvement and cost reduction.
Communication and Coordination:
- Establish strong organisational and communication channels between all departments, facilitating seamless collaboration and task prioritisation.
- Liaise with housekeeping, maintenance, reception, commercial laundry, F&B and other relevant teams to ensure cohesive operations and timely resolution of issues.
Vending Machines Management:
- Maintain and oversee the hostel's vending machines, including restocking, ordering inventory, and adjusting price levels as necessary.
- Ensure vending machines are operational, well-stocked, and offer a variety of products to meet guest preferences.
Linen Distribution:
- Taking into consideration the size of the property, you will have to manage the distribution of linen and ensure timely deliveries to all areas required, while maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and presentation.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience in inventory management, preferably in a hospitality venue or similar setting.
- Strong organisational skills with a keen eye for detail and the ability to multitask effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise with diverse teams and external suppliers.
- Understanding of financial principles related to inventory management and cost control.
- Ability to work autonomously and prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with waste management regulations and sustainable practices is desirable.
