About CatholicCare NT and the Program
CatholicCare NT is a Catholic social service agency established in the Diocese of Darwin. We provide services throughout the NT, including service centres in Darwin, Palmerston, Malak, Tiwi Islands, Daly River, Wadeye, Jabiru, Maningrida, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, Santa Teresa, Titjikala, Finke and APY lands.
The Tiwi Islands Childcare Centres provide high quality education based childcare services to the families of the Tiwi Islands community. The program facilitates activities designed to enhance early childhood learning based on the needs and interest of the children, including the cultural, physical, social, emotional, language and learning development needs.
About the role
The position works with local staff and qualified educators to lead a safe, joyful, both-ways education and care service for children aged 0 to 5 and their families. This position has a particular focus on driving continual improvement towards the National Quality Standard and developing the local workforce.
What we are looking for
Essential
- Diploma or above in Early Childhood Education and Care
- Experience running an early childhood education and care service, family centre or other early childhood service at a director or assistant director level
- Demonstrated ability or capacity to build respectful partnerships with remote Aboriginal people based on mutual respect and both-ways learning
- Ability to mentor and develop the local workforce
- Commitment to working with Aboriginal families and communities from a strengths-based approach
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including an ability to quickly build respectful relationships with children, families and staff
- Current First Aid qualifications
Desirable
- Experience working in remote communities
- Qualifications in complementary fields such as community services, business, management, training and development
- Experience or qualifications in any of the following areas: nature pedagogy, Reggio Emilia APPROACH, English as an Additional Language, trauma-informed practices, ASQ-Trak, 3A.

TIWI ISLAND
Comprising Bathurst and Melville Islands, with a population of around 2500, the Tiwi Islands are only 80km north of Darwin. The islands are home to the Tiwi people, who have a strong affiliation with their land and a distinctive culture and language. There are school and medical facilities on the islands and regular plane, passenger ferry and barge services operating from Darwin.
The Tiwi Islands are known as 'the islands of smiles'. The Tiwi people are internationally renowned for their individual style of art including carvings and bright textile designs. Prized by collectors, many Tiwi artists have exhibited around the world.
