The High Commission of Canada in Canberra is looking to welcome a dedicated and energetic individual to work as a Chef de Cuisine at the Official Residence in Red Hill. This role is responsible for preparing and overseeing all culinary aspects of Canada’s representation.
This includes identifying appropriate Canadian and local cuisine and preparing for all meals served at the Official Residence, including official hospitality events such as formal and informal luncheons, dinners, and receptions as well as meals for the High Commissioner and family.
Under the supervision of the High Commissioner:
- Plan menus and prepare all meals served at the Official Residence
- Work collaboratively with other staff as part of the team at the Official Residence
- Manage relationships with food suppliers & doing all grocery shopping
- Manage the kitchen inventory and supplies
- Perform other related duties
Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:00-16:00. Infrequent overtime will be required for events/functions and paid at an overtime rate.

Essential Qualifications:
Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, experience and language. Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and CV how they meet each of these essential qualifications.
Education:
- Certificate or Diploma in Commercial Cookery / Hospitality Management OR an equivalent combination of Education and experience
Language:
- Fluency in English, both written and oral
Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience working as a chef in a similar position at a diplomatic or international organization or at a private residence, OR a minimum or 3 years` experience working as a chef in a restaurant or hotel environment or catering
