Chef Manager

Permanent | Full time

We currently have  a exciting opportunity to join our team at The Hutchins School through our hospitality services provider TWG Hospitality Services. We're currently seeking a talented Chef Manager to lead our culinary team at Hutchins School in Sandy Bay, TAS.

As a Chef Manager, you will play a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of food preparation, presentation, and service at our site. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will provide leadership to our kitchen staff and ensure adherence to TWG policies and procedures. From maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene to managing stock control and budgeting, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the dining experience for students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all kitchen staff and ensure acceptable standards of food preparation, hygiene, and workplace safety.
  • Maintain clean and hygienic work practices in accordance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Ensure the correct and attractive presentation of food, including theme days, promotions, and function catering.
  • Manage stock control, ordering, and receiving of foodstuffs, and conduct monthly/weekly stocktakes.
  • Adhere to budgeted food, labor, and operational costs, and justify any budget variances.
  • Address client concerns promptly and communicate solution strategies effectively.
  • Complete reporting by weekly/monthly deadlines and achieve set revenue and expense budgets.
  • Coordinate functions in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for kitchen staff.
  • Conduct performance reviews and handle disciplinary actions as per company procedures.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and legislation pertaining to food safety, OH&S, and employment law.

Qualifications:

  • Trade qualifications in Commercial Cookery or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of supervisory experience in a food service environment.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and regulations related to Food Safety.
  • Strong financial understanding of food and beverage costs.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Working with Children Check (WWC) required.

Desirable Skills/Knowledge:

  • Hospitality or business-related qualification.
  • Experience in retail food environment and contemporary recruitment techniques.
  • Familiarity with menu planning disciplines and contemporary food trends.
  • Knowledge of OHS principles, EEO/Anti-discrimination laws, and respective awards.
