CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER – QCCS MACKAY CUTTERS
We are currently seeking an experienced CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER based in MACKAY to oversee the day-to-day operations of the QCCS Mackay Cutters Rugby League Football Club.

The Mackay Cutters Rugby League Football Club, a proud member of the North Queensland rugby league community, strives for excellence both on and off the field. We are committed to fostering talent and providing pathways for all players in the region.
Being part of the QCCS Mackay Cutters team is an exhilarating experience. Our organisation transcends what you witness on the field every weekend. Behind the scenes, a dedicated and talented group of individuals form the backbone of the QCCS Mackay Cutters team.
Our club comprises six teams: a senior men’s team competing in the Host Plus Cup, a senior women’s team competing in the BMD premiership, an under 19's male team in the Mal Meninga Cup, a female team in the Harvey Norman U19’s competition, an under 17's male team in the Cyril Connel Cup competition, and an under 17’s female team in the Harvey Norman U17’s competition. A structured young athlete academy supports these teams.
About the Role:
The CEO will provide overall leadership, direction, and coordination of all activities of the Mackay Cutters Rugby League Football Club (Mackay Cutters) in accordance with the goals and objectives set by the Board, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Club and the Code. The CEO will promote participation and pathways for all players in rugby league in North Queensland, ensuring the effective development of rugby league in the area.
Key Accountabilities:
Leadership and Strategy
- Lead the development and implementation of the Mackay Cutters Vision, Strategic Plan, Budgets, and Policies for endorsement by the Board.
- Implement the Club’s strategic priorities, driving and developing the organisation consistent with agreed strategic direction.
- Maintain a high level of awareness and knowledge of local, state, and national issues related to rugby league to enable meaningful discussions.
- Provide inspiring leadership with clear direction to Club staff, officials, and stakeholders.
- Report to the Chair and Board on stakeholder performance, financial performance, and KPI achievements.
Operational Management
- Oversee the Club’s football operations, including on-field and off-field personnel, game day operations, pathways, participation, development, recruitment, and compliance.
- Ensure the combined resources and capabilities of the Mackay Cutters are appropriately structured and organised to deliver the most effective and efficient service to members and supporters.
- Organise all necessary arrangements for home and away fixtures, including liaising with opposition clubs.
Financial and Governance
- Ensure a secure, stable, and adequate funding base to maintain the viability of the Mackay Cutters’ programs and activities.
- Develop and manage the Club’s annual budget and long-term financial plan.
- Ensure effective Corporate Governance procedures are in place and operating appropriately to ensure compliance with regulatory, legislative, contractual, and Pathways program obligations.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports, and re-forecasts.
- Oversee the preparation of the Club’s annual financial statements and external audit process.
- Ensure the Club meets its financial expectations and forecasts, alerting the Board if these are not met.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Identify and build productive relationships within the rugby league community and the broader sport to strengthen the Club’s position.
- Build and nurture the Club’s brand and brand loyalty through marketing and communications.
- Establish strong community engagement through the delivery of programs that utilise rugby league, with the objective of the Club becoming a positive participant within the community.
- Represent the Club at local or industry functions, awards nights, and hearings.
Requirements:
Experience and Skills
- Demonstrated experience in strategy development and successful execution leading to improved business outcomes.
- Experience in project management and budgetary management.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication capability, including skill in networking and building effective relationships with stakeholders.
- Extensive experience in a hands-on leadership role, developing internal teams, and undertaking the management of key stakeholder relationships.
- Experience in people & performance leadership with 5+ years in a Senior Management role.
- Experience working with a Board.
- Experience in developing and growing sponsorship revenue and funding management through identifying new commercial opportunities delivering stable and diverse revenue streams.
- Experience in managing facilities and events.
- Proven high-level communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with all key stakeholders.
Desirable Qualifications
- A relevant tertiary qualification in business/commerce.
- Post-graduate qualifications in sports management and/or business administration.
- Experience in, or exposure to, the sporting industry, preferably rugby league.
