Founded in 1941, Newcastle Basketball conducts competitions that are fun, inclusive and tailored to meet the needs of our community. With more than 6,200 members, the Association offers domestic and representative competitions for both adults and juniors, as well as development programs and complimentary community initiatives
About the Opportunity
This is a pivotal leadership role that will manage both the strategic and operational functions of Newcastle Basketball.
Reporting to the Board, you will help shape the future expansion and direction of the Association during an exciting and important time of growth including development of a new state of the art facility in Newcastle.
You will work with a small and dedicated management team and a broader base of casual and volunteer team members who are an integral part of the success of the Association. With the support of the Board, you will also develop, articulate and deliver the strategy for the Association, delivering programs from grass roots through to elite athlete pathways as well as complimentary community and partnership programs.
Responsibilities will include:
- Providing strategic and operational guidance and direction to the management team and broader casual and volunteer team members
- Execution and delivery of key strategic and operational projects and initiatives
- Ability to identify, build and maintain key partnerships and relationships with a range of sponsors, partners, government agencies, organisations and associations.
- Providing clear vision, leadership, strategic direction, support and guidance to the team and broader Association.
- Leading the planning and development of the new state of the art facility, including funding activities, stakeholder engagement and project management
- Proven ability to deliver both on strategy and operational activity to deliver optimal outcomes
- Strong proven financial and commercial acumen
- Proven people leadership experience with the ability to influence, lead and engage a large and diverse casual and volunteer base
- Proven ability to build and maintain key relationships with sponsors, other associations, community organisations and relevant government agencies
- Ability to influence a positive organisational culture
- Experience working in sports governance is highly desirable, but not essential
