Spartan School Supplies is a mainstay and market leader in the school uniform and school bag industry. Since 1982 we’ve manufactured and distributed quality school uniforms to schools and retailers nationally. We are a family-owned business with our head office and warehouse based in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. In May/June of this year we are relocating to a larger premises in Keysborough.
As our traditional business model was wholesale, the business has become more complex with rapid growth into the retail market since 2019. The addition of five retail outlets in Melbourne has seen our inventory increase and our employee head count grow.
Due to the retirement of our long-standing Chief Financial Officer, we are seeking an experienced and confident operator to join our team.
The Role
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for the following:
- Managing employee entitlements and payroll for over ninety (90) employees
- Budgeting and forecasting of both sales and expenses
- Monthly P&L reporting to the executive team and directors
- Participating in monthly executive meetings
- Liaising with banks and foreign currency brokers
- Managing supplier payments to local and international suppliers (via both LC and TT)
- Managing a small finance team consisting of full-time accounts payable and receivable officers
- Working closely with other department heads to achieve favourable financial outcomes
- Liaising with various landlords on all leasing matters
- Overall financial stewardship of the business
The ownership family provide clear air for the management team to run the business and are heavily investing in growth, through acquisitions, capital investment and the upcoming relocation.

The Person
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role is required.
A professional accounting qualification such as CA, CPA or CFA is preferred, but not essential, as is a Bachelors or Masters in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or MBA.
Advanced computer skills are a strong requirement (Excel, reporting tools, etc). We use Microsoft Dynamics NAV and previous experience will be highly regarded.
Our diverse workforce includes, casual, permanent part-time and full-time employees working in roles ranging from warehousing and printing, to office administration, remote territory management (in all states) and retail assistants. Therefore, an understanding of employment awards is required, and experience with human resources is highly desirable.

The Package
$170,000 - $200,000 + superannuation.
Car allowance or fully maintained company car, plus other benefits.
Commencement date of May/June 2024 will allow for a 6 month handover.
