CHILD AND FAMILY FACILITATOR
- Location : Kingaroy
- Part time position: 15h/week
ABOUT BUSHkids ORGANISATION
BUSHkids is a non-Government, not-for-profit organisation which works within local communities to support the development of children by increasing community capacity through education, prevention and early intervention programs.
CHILDREN AND PARENTING SUPPORT SERVICES PROVIDED
Early intervention and prevention services aimed at improving children’s development and wellbeing, and supporting the capacity of those in a parenting role by providing the following services:
- Child developmental programs
- Parenting skills and support
- School readiness programs
- Home visiting
- Supported playgroups
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION
The Child and Family Facilitator works closely with families, providing support, parenting education and information to help a child’s development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Community capacity building
- Professional development for early educators including family day care – in areas of social-emotional development, play, parenting, early communication and other skill areas as indicated through community engagement/needs analysis
- Workshops for parents/caregivers – Parenting, early communication, play, school readiness, social-emotional development and other skill areas as indicated according to need including soft entry involvement in community
- Networking with key stakeholders in the community, attending network meetings
- Participate in identified community events
Targeted programs
- Individual support around parenting delivered at home, in the community or virtually
- Supported playgroups as required
- Child development individual or group programs led by Child & Family Facilitators for children 0-13 years, e.g. Fun FRIENDS, PALS, delivered at home visits, in the community or virtually
Direct intervention
- Group and individual children and parenting support
- Early language intervention groups for children and parents
- Linking to and/or provision of relevant intervention services
Service administration
- Coordinating client appointments, when required; arranging, cancelling, rescheduling
- Maintain data/accurate records of client service provision in accordance with medico-legal standards
- Preparation and planning for sessions involving creating resources and developing session outlines
Other tasks include:
- Actively participate in general staff meetings
- Attend training sessions (in-house and external) when required
- Maintaining accurate financial records for petty cash expenditure
Qualifications / Professional Registrations / Other Requirements
Mandatory Requirements
- Combined NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and Blue Card
- Current C Class Queensland Drivers Licence
- Proof of Hepatitis B Vaccination status
Desirable Requirements
- Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Dietetics or Teaching
- Diploma of Early Childhood
- Current Registration requirements by specific qualification
Each staff member will be required to provide the certified copies of required documentation prior to formal offer of employment.
Desirable Qualities
- Experience in working with children experiencing learning, mild to moderate developmental delays and neurodevelopmental disorders such as ASD, ADHD
- Experience with planning, implementing and evaluating group programs for young children and their families
- Experience in the provision of health promotion/community education activities
- Experience working with families in rural, regional and remote areas
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Professional Practice
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in early intervention and prevention services for families and young children including parenting
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in working with vulnerable families who may experience multiple barriers to accessing services
Communication/Team Participation
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills necessary to work effectively in a local community to provide high quality services
- Demonstrated ability to develop professional networks and work collaboratively with other service providers
Leadership/Work Unit Management
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and ability to share knowledge and skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently without close supervision and to appropriately manage time and workload
