About the Organisation

Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) aims to use its specialist knowledge and skills to prevent domestic and family violence in the community and empower those affected by it.

CRDVS's vision is "Making a difference – bringing domestic and family violence to an end". We seek to do this by providing a confidential, comprehensive, and client-centred quality service to all vulnerable clients free of charge. CRDVS at all times strives to uphold high levels of professionalism and accountability.

Due to internal growth and promotions, we are looking for an experienced Child and Youth Practitioner to join our Mossman team 60 hours per fortnight.

How You'll Make a Difference

We now have a rewarding opportunity for a Child & Youth Practitioner to join our Mossman team. This part-time opportunity will be responsible for delivering our ‘As Kids See It’ Programme.

In this role, you primarily perform a range of specialist interventions with children and young people who have experienced domestic and/or family violence, to reduce the impact and trauma of domestic and family violence on them.

More specifically, you will:

  • Develop and provide tailored face-to-face counselling, group work, and crisis support for children and young people;
  • Use a range of modalities, including Trauma Informed Practice, as needed;
  • Provide information and support to carers of child witnesses, individually and in group settings;
  • Advocate for children and young people under your care, and work effectively with other organisations to provide services and improve responses to domestic and family violence;
  • Prepare and maintain confidential records of client work, including case management plans, reports and assessments; and
  • Enhance greater community awareness of domestic and family violence and its effects on children and young people through education.
What You'll Bring to the Team

Our ideal candidate will have a minimum Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social work, counselling or a related discipline. As our Child and Youth Practitioner, you will have substantial experience providing counselling, interventions, and support to children and young people.

The successful candidate will also have:

  • Strong understanding of developmental stages for children, adolescents, and families
  • A comprehensive understanding of gendered analysis in family violence and what this means for children and young people
  • Comprehensive understanding of different counselling models and their theoretical frameworks, including trauma-informed practice

Please Note: All applicants must hold (or obtain) a current C Class driver's licence, a Working With Children Card and a formal police criminal history check.

Be Rewarded

Our organisation is proud of its close-knit team culture and low staff turnover, indicative of not just how personally rewarding our work is, but also the high level of support that we enjoy.

If you are looking for a meaningful and personally satisfying role, this is it! CRDVS offers a supportive and flexible workplace with a team of professionals that are passionately devoted to ending domestic violence in the community.

With our 60-hour fortnights, you can have the work-life balance you’ve always dreamed of and explore the natural wonders that surround you! You'll also have full flexibility within our standard office hours and no after-hours or overnights!

Our successful applicant will be rewarded with an attractive salary in-line with SCHADS level 4 salary circa $82,000 - $88,277 plus super, annual leave loading, and the opportunity to increase your take-home pay with salary sacrificing up to $15,900.
