The Role Description
The Children and Youth Team Coordinator is a key member of the Client Services team.
This position operates under limited direction from the Executive Manager Client Services.
This position delivers specialised torture and trauma counselling services and undertakes a range of specialised functions that support ASeTTS to achieve results in line with agency goals, strategic KPIs and operational plans.
This role is being created for a fixed term of one year, a full-time contract, and set up under Level 7.1 of the SCHADS Award.
The Role Requirements
- Supervising and supporting a team of staff; this can include Level 5 Counsellors, Level 6 Counsellors with Specialist Functions, and/or staff who deliver services to Children and Youth (e.g., Education Officers, Youth Workers, and Youth Peer Support Workers).
- Monitoring the delivery of quality services by the Children and Youth Team.
- This position may be required to work across ASeTTS’ client base with individual adults, children, young people and their families/parents, as well as groups and communities, who are in the process of transitioning from war, conflict and violence into settlement and safety.
- This position may also deliver internal clinical supervision and support to individual staff across the agency (as allocated); to ensure staff meet clinical supervision practice ethical guidelines.
Selection Criteria
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Psychology, Counselling or Social Work, including registration with the relevant professional body (e.g., AHPRA, AASW, PACFA).
- Extensive experience with counselling and clinical interventions in a child and/or youth mental health service particularly with trauma and PTSD.
- Substantial experience working with and providing clinical services to, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds including a thorough understanding of torture and trauma rehabilitation and recovery-oriented principles and how they translate into practice.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with government and non-government agencies and community groups.
- An ability to work both independently and as part of a professional team.
- Knowledge of, and a commitment to, the principles of social justice and human rights.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills; including negotiation and advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and develop timely reports.
- Current WA driver’s licence, police clearance and Working with Children Check clearance.
- Residency status allowing unrestricted rights to work.
Highly desirable
- Previous experience in working with interpreters.
- Previous employment in a Torture & Trauma Rehabilitation Service.
- Previous experience in leading Children and Youth Teams and overseeing quality assurance activities.
- Familiarity with the principles and delivery of adult education.
