Why this role matters

The Salvation Army Australia's Family Violence Stream provides a wide range of services around the country to support women and women with children impacted by family and domestic violence. We offer refuge, children's and parenting services, counselling, support, men's programs, accommodation and advice to women and children who are experiencing, or who have experienced, Family Violence.


About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Children's Specialist to coordinate the delivery of high quality child focused interventions and group work to infants, children and their mothers within The Salvation Army's Family Violence Services Northern Territory.
Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a Fixed Term (until June 2026), Full-Time position based in Woodroffe, NT. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 5.


You will Successfully

  • Provide therapeutic intervention support for children (including group work).
  • Engage with children, through play assessing for development and cognitive milestones.
  • Engage with mothers and children to conduct child specific risk assessment and risk management
  • Provide authoritative direction to staff regarding children with particular focus on risk and trauma.
  • Provide information and resources to families that is relevant, accurate, up to date and easy to understand.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and external service providers to provide an integrated continuum of support to children.
  • Assist case managers in developing child centred case plans and family case plans and referrals.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to staff that is child focused, including strategies to rebuild the mother child bond.

You will have

  • A valid and current Working with Children Clearance.
  • Degree qualification in social work, welfare (social sciences), community development or related field.
  • Membership with a relevant accredited peak body (AASW, APS, ACA etc).
  • Experience in service delivery with children and families who have experienced trauma.
  • Experience with women and children who have experienced Family Violence.
  • A strong history of working with children and families from diverse backgrounds and with a complex range of support needs.
  • The ability and willingness to be on call.
