The Meander Valley Council is dedicated to fostering a vibrant and thriving community. The Infrastructure Services Department plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the Meander Valley by managing the Council’s capital works program, asset management strategy, and waste management strategy.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Civil Engineer to join the Infrastructure Services Department. Based in the beautiful community of Westbury, just a short 25-minute drive from Launceston, you will be responsible for preparing design drawings, specifications, and project plans for the construction and maintenance of Council infrastructure. You will work closely with the Engineering Team to deliver engineering solutions that best serve the Council and the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed designs, drawings, and specifications for Civil Engineering works.
- Assess engineering documentation submitted for development applications and provide timely referrals and advice.
- Conduct inspections of construction works and document information as per Council processes.
- Evaluate applications for new property accesses and works within road reserves.
- Assess applications for occupancy of road reserves and prepare assessment reports.
- Assist with procurement processes, including preparation of specifications, evaluations, and reporting.
- Carry out routine and emergency asset infrastructure inspections and prepare condition reports.
- Develop project plans for maintenance or construction works, including costings, timeframes, and resource allocation.
- Investigate issues with existing infrastructure assets and recommend rectifications.
- Update Council’s asset management register and GIS with relevant data.
- Provide technical advice and information to Council and Community committees as requested.
- Assist in preparing reports for Council meetings or workshops as required.
Key Challenges:
- Preparing accurate and detailed designs and documentation to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Balancing operational tasks and providing timely customer service.
- Meeting required timeframes for the assessment of development applications and inspection of works.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent combination of training, skills, and experience.
- Understanding of local government infrastructure assets and technical standards.
- Knowledge of work health and safety in construction and civil works.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to relate to customer enquiries.
- Ability to negotiate infrastructure asset standards with consultants and contractors.
- High-level computer skills for administration and infrastructure design.
- Current vehicle driver’s license and commitment to maintaining it.
