Claims Reduction Adviser (Patient Safety)Public health services and Patient Safety

  • Part-Time 0.6 FTE/3 days a week
  • 12 Months Fixed Term
  • Hybrid Working

Your roleYour role is to deliver Claims Reduction services and advice to our clients, contributing to VMIA's strategic objectives. Your work will directly contribute towards a more confident and resilient Victoria by helping to minimise clients' exposure to insurable risk.Your role will focus mainly on Victorian public health sector clients and medical indemnity claims. You'll identify and communicate claims insights with clients that support them actively working towards reducing risks that can lead to claims.This role would suit a Health Professional working in Patient Safety, service improvement, risk and insurance, or projects. A clinical background such as Nursing, Physiotherapy or Allied Health would be valuable, or experience with other public health organisations such as the Department of Health.You're a member of the Claims Reduction Advisory team, reporting to the Manager, Claims Reduction Advisory in the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions Division.What you doThis role has a set of responsibilities that are likely to evolve over time. Your key responsibilities are to:
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of a client-centric Claims Reduction advisory service, working closely with the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions Division and Insights and Analytics teams.
  • Collect and analyse data and information from a range of sources to identify opportunities for clients to reduce cost and frequency of claims, prevent avoidable harm and minimise insurable risk.
  • Develop and deliver tailored advice to help clients understand their claims experience and the opportunities for improvement.
  • Deliver compelling client engagements and presentations so that your advice influences change in processes, systems and behaviour to reduce claims.
  • Contribute to the development of a risk-based approach to identify priority clients to focus on reducing claims.
  • Develop trusted relationships through delivery of Claims Reduction services and advice to clients.
  • Apply your subject matter expertise within project teams to better understand client needs, design service prototypes and support the development and implementation of new or improved services.
  • Actively monitor client feedback via formal and informal channels, and continually improve services.
  • Support client understanding of the requirements of Section 23 of the VMIA Act
  • Be a shared resource for insurable risk services across all segments, as required.
Who you work with
  • You work primarily with public health sector clients and regularly communicate and consult with internal and external peers to inform claims experience, trends, and new opportunities for clients to reduce claims.
  • You partner with internal colleagues from teams including Harm Prevention, Insurable Risk Advisory, Claims, Insurance, and Insights and Analytics to develop and deliver Claims Reduction advice and insights to clients.
  • Your work supports design, development and implementation of key client programs and initiatives and you partner with teams involved in these initiatives.
About you
  • You must have experience, knowledge or exposure to the Public Health Sector or Hospitals and be familiar with the field and how it operates.
  • You have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, proven client relationship management experience and the ability to influence stakeholders and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • You have strong critical thinking and analysis skills, with the capability to draw meaningful conclusions from a range of information sources.
  • You have excellent verbal and written presentation/facilitation and communication skills with the ability to identify and report relevant information to influence and aid decision making.
  • You have experience in delivering projects and/or quality and/or safety improvement initiatives.
  • You have a solid insurance / claims knowledge with a risk management mindset to facilitate expert Claims Reduction advice.
  • You have successfully collaborated with professional people across multiple organisational levels and in environments undergoing constant change to achieve objectives.
  • You have an appreciation of the complexities and nuances of public sector management, having operated successfully in such an environment before.
  • You have demonstrated strategic and conceptual, evaluation and planning capability.
  • You have proficiency in software tools including Microsoft Services Suite + SharePoint, Jira, Miro and Menti.
Qualifications
  • You hold a tertiary qualification in Health, Business, Commerce, Finance, Law, or relevant discipline. You may also hold professional membership with a risk management, Insurance, or relevant organisation.
  • You are a fit and proper person as per APRA guidelines. This includes not being listed on the disqualified persons register (Insurance Act section 25(A) 1), and you have not been convicted of a criminal offence and you have not been bankrupt.
