What is the purpose of the role?
The Claims Specialist role is here to:
- To coordinate, assess, negotiate, and settle assistance and insurance claims in accordance with the specific insurance policy issued and instructions received from the underwriters.
- This senior role requires in-depth knowledge of the General Insurance (GI) code of practice and familiarity with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
- The role involves approval authority for claims up to $100,000. The Claims Specialist Assessor is responsible for driving the claims process forward and assisting the claims team in achieving optimal claims cost and the highest possible standards of service delivery.
What will I be doing in the role?
- Working as part of the Assistance and Claims Team to ensure all assistance and claims files are handled daily to the required standard within agreed time frames.
- Manage a portfolio of Travel Insurance claims and assistance matters from lodgement to finalisation.
- Review clients’ situations individually and assess cases to ensure the appropriate level of coverage is provided.
- Process the payment of approved claims.
- Liaise with different insurance companies and medical professionals.
- Accurately record and update customer information, inputting data into the company’s claims system.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in the industry, including regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Negotiate claims settlements in a cost-effective manner, ensuring fairness and reasonableness to customers.
- Identify fraud and recovery opportunities and take appropriate action.
- Conduct your role in accordance with the Anti-Fraud Campaign Policy, acting honestly and with integrity, and report any suspected incidents of fraud and corruption.
The person who gets this job will have considerable claims experience 2-3 + years (ideally) in General insurance, or even better Travel Insurance.
They will also be an organised, empathetic and service focused person, with strong verbal and written communication with a fantastic attention to detail. The ability to manage and have experience to have manged more significant claims is very important as those decisions will rest with you up to $100k.
Lastly, you’ll need to have the right personality type! You are dealing with people who have a problem they are hoping you can fix.
