Job location

Forensicare provides specialist forensic mental health services across 12 of Victoria's 14 prisons, with expansion underway to include Western Plains in the Barwon region. This position, based at Ravenhall Correctional Centre in Melbourne's west, provides 75 prison-based custodial mental health beds as well as assessments and outpatient services in a maximum-security forensic mental health complex within the medium-security prison.

About the Role:

The Clinical Coordinator roles within the FMH Units provide overarching support for the operational functioning of each Unit. The Clinical Coordinator will ensure the Unit(s) structures and practices align with the Ravenhall Charter, ensuring service integration and fidelity to the Charter's vision, mission, values and principles. The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for providing the multidisciplinary team (MDT) with support in relation to the development, implementation and evaluation of quality initiatives. The Clinical Coordinator Page 3 of 8 will also be responsible for the allocation of patients to care coordination streams, including allocation to specific Key Nurses/Clinicians, taking into account the individual patient needs, the strengths of each staff member, and the patient cohort within each stream.

Duties

  • Work within an ethically and legally sound framework.
  • In collaboration with the Unit/Program Manager, provide oversight of the day-to-day functioning of the Unit.
  •  Assist the Unit/Program Manager in orientating new staff (including agency/bank) to ensure they receive an appropriate induction into the Unit.
  •  Allocation of Key Nurses to patients, being considerate of staff strengths/skills, patient needs, and patient cohort within each stream.
  •  Liaise with the Prison Access Flow Coordinator to facilitate admission and discharge flow. 
  • Provide supervision and support to nursing staff.
  •  Oversee the delivery of effective and sustainable therapeutic programs

About You:

  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery. 
  • Hold a Postgraduate Diploma (Nursing Practice Mental Health) or equivalent, and possess current registration with AHPRA. 
  • Demonstrate experience translating knowledge of current Australian College of Mental Health Nursing standards of practice, contemporary forensic mental health nursing practices and relevant legislation into practice, coupled with significant post-registration experience in a similar role. 
  • Thorough understanding and demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer Recovery, including the modelling and leading of recovery-focused initiatives. 
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan and undertake comprehensive nursing assessments of mentally ill patients.

Nursing

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
  • The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential
