The town of Katherine is 3.5 hours’ drive south of Darwin and home to hot springs, plenty of cafés and a bustling social calendar! Surrounded by Nitmiluk, Kakadu and East Kimberley National Parks, locals spend their weekends enjoying the proximity to outback Australia with no shortage of bushwalks, camping opportunities and breathtaking flora, fauna and scenery.
Katherine Emergency Department is seeking a Clinical Director with a passion for delivering high quality acute and critical care services in our rural and remote setting. The Clinical Director will work with a team of doctors, in a unique procedure rich environment with a varied and interesting clinical case mix. The team in Katherine ED is committed to providing excellent emergency care with goals to continue expanding our service delivery to the communities and people of the Big Rivers Region. The role of Clinical Director would suit a specialist in Emergency Medicine (FACEM) who has an interest and passion for delivery of emergency care in rural and remote Australia. The successful candidate will have a track record in leadership and a commitment to clinical governance.
The Katherine Hospital Emergency Department has 18,000 presentations a year with a mix of adult and paediatric patients. Based in the Big Rivers Region of the Northern Territory which services twenty one remote Indigenous communities, our department fosters and seeks individuals with an interest in Indigenous health, preservation and culturally safe practice working with the many challenges of health care service delivery. Katherine hospital is uniquely placed to offer the challenges of tropical medicine, trauma, remoteness, high acuity and patients with complex comorbidities. You would join our stable and collegial senior clinical team consisting of Rural Generalists (Obstetrics and Anaesthetics) and General Physicians based in the town as well as visiting Emergency, Paediatric and Surgical specialists. Katherine maintains good working relationships with retrieval services and the Royal Darwin Hospital providing scope for maintaining professional networks and skills. Medical staff consist of FACRRM registrars, rotating interns & residents from Royal Darwin Hospital, and medical students. There is the opportunity to work with and gain academic status with the Flinders University Northern Territory Medical Program.
The Clinical Director position comes with an attractive remuneration, accommodation & relocation package with generous allowances and leave options. Additional specific attraction allowances up to $90, 000 are applicable to this position.
