Job description

Exciting Role - Permanent, Full-time, Herston | Oversee and assist with the implementation of the vision, aim and priorities of the Growing Deadly Families Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Maternity Services Strategy 2019-2025 (GDF Strategy) across Queensland

The role
In this pivotal role, you will ensure adherence to stringent service quality standards and health and safety protocols, guaranteeing the delivery of exceptional and secure services within the workplace. As a Senior Investigations Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the GDF Strategy at the local level, collaborating closely with FNHO, QAIHC, and OMwO. Leveraging extensive experience in maternity settings with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families, you will provide invaluable assistance to OCMwO in bolstering workforce capability and nurturing the First Nations maternity workforce.

Furthermore, you will serve as a passionate advocate for First Nations' Health Equity agendas within OCMwO and the Centre of Excellence Queensland, driving initiatives that champion improved health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Your role will also entail fostering collaborative partnerships with external stakeholders such as QAIHC, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations, and health service providers to enhance maternity health outcomes. With a continuous focus on staying abreast of evolving community priorities and leveraging the best available evidence, you will ensure that maternity services within Health and Hospital Services (HHS) are aligned with the needs and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Finally, your adeptness in project management, coupled with impeccable interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, will be instrumental in driving the success of state-wide projects and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders, underpinned by culturally safe engagement practices.

The successful person
To excel in this position, you will need a deep understanding of the health challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the context of maternity services, coupled with the ability to communicate sensitively and collaborate effectively with Indigenous individuals and organizations. Your record of accomplishment should demonstrate your capacity to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary services and with key stakeholders to drive significant health reforms benefiting First Nations Queenslanders.

Moreover, your demonstrated experience in engaging with First Nations communities, programs, or initiatives, along with your leadership acumen in fostering positive team dynamics through the articulation of engagement principles and personal attributes, will be essential. Please note that this role requires the incumbent to be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, in accordance with the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. Appointment to this position necessitates proof of qualification and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a Midwife, along with a Bachelor of Midwifery or relevant postgraduate qualification. Possession of a current driver's license and the ability to travel within Queensland and/or interstate for brief periods is also required. Additionally, compliance with vaccination requirements for specified diseases, as outlined in Health Employment Directive No. 01/16, is mandatory for employment in this role.
