Job description

The Children's Ward located at Townsville University Hospital are seeking an experienced and client focused Clinical Nurse to join their highly skilled and supportive team in a permanent full-time role.

The Clinical Nurse provides advanced clinical care within a specialty area, supporting the functioning of the Children’s ward through the application of best practice, education, leadership and portfolio management.

Townsville University Hospital, located adjacent to one of Queensland’s leading tertiary institutions, James Cook University, is the largest tertiary hospital in northern Australia, providing specialist referral services for 700,000 people living from Mackay, to the Torres Strait, to the Northern Territory border.

Eligible Health Workers who move to Queensland from interstate and international jurisdictions to take up permanent employment may receive up to $20,000 in incentive payments under the   Queensland Health Attraction Incentive Scheme ( https://www.careers.health.qld.gov.au/working-for-us/workforce-attraction-incentive-scheme ) 

The Opportunity  

You will be providing direct nursing care utilising clinical skills, education and support to children / families and nursing staff within the Children's Ward to ensure the provision of best practice and quality patient care in a family centred environment.

The Paediatric Service provides inpatient, ambulatory and community services, with a primary health care focus.  Inpatient services consist of a Children's Ward, which is a 30-bed ward catering for children up to 16 years of age.  The Children's Ward provides both regional and tertiary paediatric services for the Northern area. Services provided range from general paediatric to a broad range of medical and surgical specialist services.

The paediatric service also provides outpatient, acute extended care and community based paediatric services to support the continuum of care. There is a multidisciplinary team focus based on principles of family centred care.

Generous remuneration package value up to $132,289 p.a.comprising:

  • Salary rates between $4138.10 - $4431.10 p.f. (NG6-1)
  • Annual leave loading + leave
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution

Role requirements 

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
  • Highly Desirable: Postgraduate qualifications relevant to the position or working towards a relevant qualification.
  • Attainment of Paediatric Specific Competencies are mandatory for all nursing staff working within the Children's ward as well as completion of relevant education relating to Paediatrics e.g. Transition to Paediatric Nursing in Articulation mode (if the applicant does not have a post graduate or relevant qualification).
  • Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster.
  • The applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, including the Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Power Point.
