About the Opportunity:
The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is an expert nurse who will provide leadership, advice and recommendations on all aspects of nursing and consults on matters relating to the safe and appropriate management of drug and alcohol related conditions.
The Drug and Alcohol Hospital Consultation Liaison (D&A HCL) service provides evidence based advice (consultation) to treating teams regarding the management of patients’ drug and alcohol related issues during their inpatient stay.
The D&A HCL service enhances the capacity of generalist health providers (liaison) to address drug and alcohol issues in their routine work. 2 The D&A HCL Clinical Nurse Consultant s’ role is to assess and manage drug and alcohol related conditions during hospital presentations.
They will facilitate discharge planning for the patient with substance use disorders that require ongoing treatment. The Clinical Nurse Consultant will provide safe, compassionate, quality, person centred care and work in collaboration with patients/families/carers and a multidisciplinary team to achieve identified goals and outcomes.

How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible. * Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience
  • Approved post graduate nursing qualifications in a field relevant to the specialty field or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the organisation
  • Demonstrated evidence of strategies used to maintain current knowledge of clinical practice advances and research in the relevant specialty
  • Demonstrated ability to apply expert knowledge to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs
  • Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise
  • Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based nursing care
  • Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace
