The Mental Health Nursing Early Career Coordiantor will be responsible for the co-ordination and implementation of education, training, and professional development programs for mental health nurses in their first two years of practice. These programs include but are not limited to, the Mental Health Nurse Graduate Program, Mental Health Nurse Post Graduate Program, Transition Nurse Program to Mental Health.
The MHN ECC will evaluate early career programs for mental health nurses to ensure they are designed to raise nursing standards and are consistent with evidence-based practice, contemporary care approaches and the strategic directions of the Mental Health Division and Nursing at Austin Health.
The co-ordination of these early career mental health nursing programs includes strategic planning around recruitment, retention as well as support for these nurses in collaboration with Mental Health Nursing Education and Training Team (MHNETT) and Clinical Nursing Education Unit (CNED).
The MHN ECC will respond to divisional, and hospital wide needs and can translate Austin Health’s nursing vision and strategy through these early career education programs.
To be successful in this role you must demonstrate;
- A sound understanding of contemporary mental health nursing frameworks.
- Highly developed communication and teaching skills to effectively support a wide range of nursing staff and teaching programs.
- Demonstrated high level liaison and collaborative ability with both local and external stakeholders.
- A sound understanding of information technology including clinical systems, applications - (Microsoft Office, search engines, research databases etc.)
- An understanding of the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System recommendations and how these impact the role of the mental health nurse
- Ability to communicate effectively (nonverbally, in writing and verbally)
- Ability to implement, lead and support evaluation and change
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Safewards model and experience in reducing restrictive interventions
- Thorough knowledge of the National Safety and Quality in Health Care Standards
