Townsville University Hospital are seeking an experienced and outcome driven Clinical Nurse Consultant for Surgical Ward 1, which covers Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology and Gynaecology. This is a permanent full-time role.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant (Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology and Gynaecology) will provide effective, clinical, and professional leadership to nursing staff in Surgical Ward One by providing specialist expertise and taking specific responsibility for patient, quality, and experience.
This position works collaboratively with the Nurse Unit Manager to drive efficiency and quality initiatives across the Ward.
Eligible Health Workers who move to Queensland from interstate and international jurisdictions to take up permanent employment may receive up to $20,000 (pro rata) in incentive payments under the Queensland Health Attraction Incentive Scheme ( https://www.careers.health.qld.gov.au/working-for-us/workforce-attraction-incentive-scheme )
Surgical Ward One Surgical Ward One is a 30-bed in-patient facility providing first-class orthopaedic, ophthalmology and gynaecology services to clients and patients within North Queensland. The ward services an area including Ingham, Ayr, Home Hill, Charters Towers, Richmond, Hughenden, Mount Isa, Magnetic Island and Palm Island with referrals accepted from Mackay, Cairns, and Mornington Island.

Generous remuneration package value up to $159,899 p.a.comprising:
- Salary rates between $4933.10 - $5355.90 p.f. (NG7)

Role requirements
- Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
- Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:
- Provide expert nursing leadership and coordination within a Surgical Ward environment.
- Sound knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and theory and the ability to apply relevant legislation, guidelines and standards.
- Integrate the strategic direction and priorities for quality improvement into the clinical service, establishing a quality framework.
- Advanced leadership, negotiation, conflict resolution and change management skills to ensure customer focused service provision amongst the multidisciplinary team.
- High level of communication skills required for problem solving and decision making.
- Use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position.
- Ongoing professional development of self and others.
- Understanding of teaching and learning in the health care environment (adult learning principles) with demonstrated clinical teaching and facilitation skills.
