Where you will be working:
Cooinda is a 24 bed acute surgical ward which includes Urology, General Surgery and Vascular specialities. The acuity of the patients is diverse across these specialities and includes patients who require pre and post-operative care, continuous bladder irrigation, Patient Control Analgesia monitoring, complex wound care and stoma care. The nursing team is supported by Clinical Nurse Educator and the Nurse Unit Manager. Clinical Nurse Consultants within Acute Pain, Urology/Stoma, Wound Care and Infection Prevention and Control are also available to provide ongoing support and education to staff as required. What you'll be doing:

The Clinical Nurse Educator provides coordination, delivery and evaluation of Clinical Nurse education (including programs) at the ward/unit level. Such education may include orientation and/or transitioning for new nursing staff, undergraduate and casual nurses as well as meeting the ongoing educational needs of existing nursing staff. The Clinical Nurse Educator also provides clinical supervision at the point of care within everyday clinical practice, in line with the ANMC Decision Making Frameworks for Nurses and Midwives.
Our Hospital and Community:
The Sutherland Hospital is a 375-bed, major metropolitan hospital and an associated teaching hospital of the University of NSW, which is part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and is located in Caringbah, a southern suburb of Sydney. Established in 1958, The Sutherland Hospital campus offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services to around 226,000 residents of the Sutherland Shire, colloquially known as ‘The Shire’
A $62.9 million redevelopment has delivered a new and expanded emergency department, 60 new acute inpatient beds, and storage space for theatres to improve efficiencies. Current refurbishment works to provide an expanded medical imaging service are in progress.
The hospital campus is close to some of Sydney’s great beaches, restaurants, bars and cafes at Cronulla and is close to the beautiful Royal National Park. Gymea is another lively suburb with many restaurants and cafes. At Miranda, just a short walk away from the hospital, there is a Westfield Shopping Centre and cinema complex.
The ideal candidate will have: * Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.

  • Holds a relevant clinical or education post registration qualification or 3 years clinical experience in the field.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of teaching and learning in the health care environment (adult learning principles).
  • Demonstrated clinical teaching & facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of competency attainment and assessment.
  • Computer literacy and understanding of hospital information systems.

A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.
