Seeking a Clinical Nurse with current and extensive experience working within a General Surgery/Colorectal operating theatre to join a friendly and supportive team in the Operating Theatres at Townsville University Hospital. This is a temporary part-time role up to 14/06/2024, working 64 hours per fortnight, with a possibility of a 12 month extension.
The General Surgery/Colorectal Operating Theatre Clinical Nurse will provide direct nursing care utilising clinical skills, education and support to patients/clients and nursing staff within the unit to ensure the provision of best practice and quality patient care.

The opportunity The Clinical Nurse is responsible for training of new staff in General Surgery/Colorectal/hepatobiliary surgery and ordering of clinical supplies and equipment. The Clinical Nurse is also responsible for formulating a draft roster for the theatre team and staff allocations in the theatre in consultation with the Nurse Unit Manager to ensure that theatre templates are covered.
The two General Surgery/colorectal operating theatres run five days a week with additional theatre list occurring on an adhoc basis. This is a job share opportunity with another Clinical Nurse of this specialty.
The successful candidate must have current and extensive experience working within a General Surgery/Colorectal operating theatre.
Employment Term
- Fixed Term Temporary part-time, commencing ASAP - 14/06/2024
with a possibility of an additional 12 months extension

Role requirements
- Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
- Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
- Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
- On call: Appointees may be required to participate in an on-call roster.
The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:
- Proven ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care at an advanced level within a complex environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks to achieve work unit outcomes.
- Ability to provide nursing leadership in the clinical and professional setting including the role modelling of effective communication and problem solving.
- Proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position in order to achieve outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
- Proven ability to provide clinical education and support at an advanced level and demonstrate own professional development.
- Demonstrated ability and skills to perform the roles of a Instrument Nurse/Circulatory Nurse in accordance with Australian College of Operating Room Nurses (ACORN) standards.
- Current and extensive experience working in a General Surgery/Colorectal Operating Theatre is essential.
