The Ambulatory Care Team at the Mackay Base Hospital are seeking applications for a Clinical Nurse (Wound and Stoma) to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity
The Clinical Nurse coordinates the management of patient/client care and provides advanced level patient-focused evidence-based nursing care and plans. The Clinical Nurse also provides leadership, support and education to other nursing staff and students in Outpatient Clinics and on the wards.
Wound and Stomal Therapy Management Service encompasses pre and post-operative care, management and ongoing support for patients and their families with chronic, complex wounds, burns and stoma (including Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy's). The Clinical Nurse runs a daily OPD clinic, while also providing support and education to staff and inpatient wards.
The Clinical Nurse provides continuum of care through:
- Patient assessment and collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Wound assessment and relevant diagnostic evaluation (acute and chronic).
- Using appropriate dressings and wound care products.
- Initial and ongoing assessment and management of burns, in collaboration with RBWH.
- Pre-operative education and stoma site placement, and ongoing stoma education and support.
- Pre and post-op counselling pertaining PEG, initial management and ongoing support.
- Providing follow up contact and ongoing support to patients and families in an outpatient setting.
- Ability to work within the multi-disciplinary team for wound and stoma management.
