THE DEPARTMENT
Ward 5 West is Alfred Health's Trauma and Orthopaedic ward, receiving road, domestic and workplace trauma patients at The Alfred. Our patients are received from the Emergency & Trauma Centre, Intensive Care Unit and Operating Theatres along with a small portion of elective Orthopaedic admissions. The teams focus is on delivering patient-centred care to our group of complex patients within a supportive environment to promote accountable and safe care. We work together as an interdisciplinary team to deliver excellence in patient experience and surgical care at The Alfred.
THE ROLE
The Clinical Support and Development Nurse is a member of the leadership team of the ward and reflects the values of the Nursing Division by working closely with the Nurse Manager to: exemplify and promote excellence in practice; and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues in supporting the coordination, management and evaluation of the care of a specific patient population. The Clinical Support and Development Nurse is a recognised resource for all staff to assist in achieving best practice to ensure optimal outcomes for patients, serving as a role model for professional practice by integrating the components of a professional role: clinical practice, consultation, collaboration, leadership, education, research evaluation and quality improvement.
The Clinical Support and Development Nurses will be responsible for both clinical and post-graduate education coordination, direct Clinical Support to the interdisciplinary workforce, care pathway review and implementation of a clinical research profile within the unit, as well as assisting the Nurse Manager with safety, quality and risk management and initiatives. These responsibilities and deliverables will be aligned with the overall direction of 5 West, and will also include working clinical bedside shifts, supporting staff progression through the Learning Journey and managing local portfolio work.
ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will bring a passion for clinical education and support in a fast-paced and strong team environment, with an ability to tailor this to the needs of the team from students through to experienced staff. You will have excellent communication, teamwork, organisation and time management skills, with an ability to adapt to changing needs and demands of the ward whilst balancing the key priorities of the role. You will have experience in quality improvement projects, and be able to facilitate and encourage the team to be involved and foster a strong team unity.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Current Registered Nurse Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA
- Extensive relevant clinical experience in acute care nursing and in a clinical leadership role
- Postgraduate qualifications in management or working towards an equivalent qualification
- Current and satisfactory Police Check
- Current and satisfactory Working With Children Check
Desirable skills and experience:
- Previous experience in the Trauma or Orthopaedic specialities and familiarity with skills and devices commonly seen in this patient cohort (e.g. spinal precautions, orthoses, ICCs, tracheostomy, epidural) will be highly regarded
