The Opportunity

  • Cloud Engineer
  • Permanent Full-Time (38 hours per week)
  • Based in Brisbane CBD (Cnr Queen and Creek Streets)
  • Hybrid Arrangement - 2 days WFH / 3 days onsite

The Cloud Engineer role at Microba, an ASX-listed company focused on microbiome testing technology and life-changing therapeutics projects, is heavily involved in supporting the infrastructure operations of the Microba Life Sciences Group. The role spans various responsibilities and accountabilities and is well suited for someone seeking Cloud Technology career growth and on-the-job professional development.

The Cloud Engineer position is critical for providing operational support within Microba's cloud infrastructure, focusing on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and other relevant cloud services. Operating primarily on GNU/Linux (Ubuntu), this role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including the maintenance and optimization of cloud systems, deployment of applications, and diligent monitoring of services to ensure performance and reliability. Essential responsibilities also include conducting proactive reporting and performing administrative duties to uphold our ISO27001 certification, managing patches and vulnerabilities to bolster security, meticulously creating and maintaining technical documentation to support system operations, and overseeing backups to ensure data integrity.

In addition to these core duties, the Cloud Engineer will play a vital role in supporting our internal Bioinformaticians and Data Scientists, offering technical assistance and ensuring they have reliable access to the computational resources required for their work.

The role reports to the Senior DevOps Engineer.

The Cloud Engineer will work collaboratively with the Infrastructure Team, to deliver secure, reliable and resilient compute, and to contribute to culture and operational success.

The role supports Microba's mission of positively impacting lives through advanced microbiome science.

What you will bring to the role

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary education in Information Technology or Computer Sciences or equivalent
  • A background in GNU/Linux Administration and managing cloud-based infrastructure, plus 1 year minimum in a corporate setting
  • Demonstrated experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or both
  • Demonstrated experience in managing, patching, upgrading, backing up and restoring GNU/Linux servers and containers within a corporate environment
  • Demonstrated experience in automation of system tasks through scripting (using BASH, Go, etc) and configuration tools (such as Ansible)
  • Knowledge of ticketing systems, code versioning (git) and other IaC development tools and practices
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of basic productivity tools such as Microsoft Office and Teams

Highly Advantageous

  • AWS SysOps Administrator (Associate) or GCP Associate Cloud Engineer or higher relevant qualification.
  • Working within an ASX-listed company
  • Experience in Biotech, Life sciences, Healthcare or associated businesses
