The Australian Hotels Association - WA (AHA) is seeking a Communications and Media Executive to join its dynamic team in West Perth to enhance and maintain its public and industry image as the peak industry association for Western Australia’s hotel and hospitality industry.
Established in 1892, the AHA’s membership covers a spectrum of businesses providing accommodation, food, beverage, entertainment, tourism, meeting and convention facilities in WA.

About the role:
This role reports to the Government Relations and Communications Manager and works alongside the Digital and Creative Executive.
As the Communications and Media Executive you will be responsible for:
- Writing and developing communications, drafting media releases, content for AHA websites, newsletters, and other online services.
- Management of the content for the ahawa.asn.au and westernaustralia.jobs website.
- Developing and implementing website and social media engagement plans.
- Leading the content development process for the quarterly magazine
- Monitoring AHA media mentions and issues, and coordinating media interviews and press conferences for the CEO.
- Developing and maintaining working relationships with media representatives.
- Supporting the Events team with event Communications and promotion.
Key Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- Experience writing media releases, research and writing of submissions
- Excellent grammar with high attention to detail, especially regarding written content.
- Digitally savvy, with exceptional skills supporting the creation and preparation of communication for a variety of digital channels.
- Understanding of target audiences, with an effective and adaptable writing style and ability to deliver high-impact messaging to different audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities and monitor workflows within own area of responsibility.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders to achieve stated outcomes.
- High-level proficiency in computer software packages including word processing, MailChimp (or other EDM software), and social media.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, especially the capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively in small teams.
Desired experience
- An undergraduate degree in fields such as Marketing, Media or Communications with subsequent relevant experience in those areas, or extensive experience, or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
- Experience using Hootsuite and database management systems.
- Experience working within Government or Associations.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Australian hospitality and tourism industry and/or Macro Economic Policy
