Communications Design Engineer

The ACEREZ consortium, which includes the ACCIONA COBRA Joint Venture (ACJV), has been appointed Preferred Proponent to design and construct the transmission line infrastructure for the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ), as part of Australia’s energy transition, outlined in the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap.

The new transmission infrastructure, which will combine high-capacity transmission lines, energy hubs and related infrastructure, will enable generators such as solar and wind farms and energy storage providers in the CWO REZ to connect to the electricity grid, providing a reliable supply of clean, affordable electricity for households and businesses across NSW while helping to meet the state’s newly legislated Net Zero targets.

AC JV are now looking for a Communications Design Engineer to join the Design team. Reporting to the Design Director at our main office in Sydney CBD, this role will be a vital part of the team.

Specific Tasks Include

• Communication Network Design:

Design communication networks, including LANs, WANs, and other architectures.

Proficiently select network topology, protocols, and technologies based on project requirements.

• Protocols and Standards:

In-depth knowledge of communication protocols such as IP-MPLS, MPLS-TP, SDH, and other network layer protocols.

Ensure compliance with industry standards for interoperability and regulatory requirements.

• Cybersecurity Focus:

Implement cybersecurity principles in communication system design.

Design secure systems with encryption, access controls, and other measures against unauthorized access and data breaches.

• Scalability and Redundancy:

Design systems with scalability and redundancy in mind.

Plan for future growth, ensuring networks can accommodate increased traffic and additional devices.

• Interdisciplinary Collaboration:

Collaborate effectively with professionals from diverse disciplines.

Translate project requirements, understand stakeholder needs, and integrate communication systems seamlessly.

• Documentation and Execution:

Create designs and documentation using AutoCAD.

Collaborate with drafters for timely execution and design verification of projects.

• Leadership and Mentorship:

Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to emerging engineers.

Required Skills & Competencies:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s/Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• Proven experience in design for communication networks within the industry. 
• High attention to detail, time, and stakeholder management capabilities.
