Communications Officer
About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint a Communications Officer in the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) which is part of The College of Sciences and Engineering.
TIA contributes to the development of prosperous, innovative and sustainable rural industries and communities through impact-focused education, research, development and extension initiatives.
The Communications Officer, working closely with the Communications Manager, plays a pivotal role in executing TIA’s Communication Strategy. To achieve this, the Communications Officer will collaborate with key stakeholders across TIA and externally to develop media releases, news articles, newsletters, videos, website and social media content, and other assets as required.
Through targeted and strategic communication efforts, the Communications Officer contributes to enhancing TIA’s visibility and engagement across a wide spectrum of stakeholders. By effectively managing TIA’s communication channels, the officer aids in disseminating vital information, research outcomes, and the significance of TIA’s work, ultimately strengthening connections and advancing agricultural science within Tasmania and beyond.
What you’ll do:
Develop targeted and strategic written and visual content for newsletters, contributions to media outlets, media releases, and promotional materials.
Lead development of a digital strategy and develop content for TIA’s digital communication platforms including website and social media content management and video production.
Proactively engage with media outlets to pitch stories and coordinate enquiries.
Develop and implement communications strategies for research projects to share information with external stakeholders to demonstrate impact, support enabling outcomes and increase industry awareness and engagement.
Co-ordinate the targeted and innovative delivery of information, publications and promotional materials.
Contribute to TIA’s program of public events.
What we’re looking for:
Tertiary qualification in journalism, media or communications and at least 4 years subsequent relevant communications experience in a university or similar complex organisational environment or equivalent relevant experience.
Proven ability to critically analyse complex information and produce clear, succinct and high-quality communications for a range of audiences and literacy levels.
Experience developing communications strategies and providing strategic advice on setting, scheduling and delivering measurable communications outputs.
Excellent interpersonal skills that enhance an ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and work flexibly and collaboratively.
A capacity to act independently, while exercising discretion, sound judgement, impartiality and confidentiality.
Proven experience in managing digital communications platforms, such as websites and social media channels and producing engaging and targeted digital content including video creation.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $110,273 comprising base salary within the range of $86,918 to $94,250 plus 17% superannuation.
