Snapshot: The Australian Wagyu Association (AWA) is an Australian public company that provides registration, genetic analysis and breed development services for members in more than 20 countries.
Background:
The Australian Wagyu Association (AWA) has rapidly developed its use of advanced genetic and genomic technologies to increase the rate of genetic gain in the Wagyu breed outside of Japan. The AWA is the fastest growing breed organisation in Australia and has a unique position in that it provides global registration and genetic evaluation services for members in more than 20 countries.
AWA members have increased 250% over the last 10 years, with numbers of registered Wagyu increasing by 580% over the same period. We estimate that the AWA is engaged with more than 80% of the Australian Wagyu Sector including some of the largest vertically-integrated high-value production companies in Australia.
Wagyu cattle obtain significant premiums compared to other breed-types and their beef is a luxury product that is traded globally. Wagyu cattle are clearly recognised as the number one beef eating experience in Australia and for export and provide the most profitable beef production in Australia. The Australian Wagyu Industry is recognised as the number one source of the world’s elite Wagyu genetics, breeding livestock and beef products outside of Japan.
The role of Communications Officer is pivotal to supporting the dissemination of information to members aligned with the Marketing and Communications Strategy, and to the business within the Corporate Goal of Corporate Services: Increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the AWA administration.
Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer will be responsible for providing assistance and support to the Chief Executive Officer and Marketing and Communications Manager by undertaking the following duties:
- Assist with administration items for major AWA Project/Events.
- Assist with delivery written content for print and digital media.
- Liaise with AWA Partners (sponsors) where required.
- Manage AWA Merchandise Shop including stock levels, orders and sales.
- Assist Marketing and Communications Manager wherever else may be required.
Location:
The AWA head office is located at Level 1, 146 Marsh Street, Armidale, NSW 2350. The position will operate from head office.

Selection Criteria:
Essential:
- A desire to contribute to the success of the Wagyu industry.
- Professional communication skills, both written and oral.
- Collaborative and engaging team member.
- Ability to manage multiple processes and tasks simultaneously.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft systems including Excel, Word and Outlook
- Ability to contribute to innovative solutions and assist with process improvement.
Highly desirable:
- Tertiary qualifications in Business or Marketing.
- Appropriate beef industry experience.
