Join Our Team as a Community Collaboration Facilitator, Asthma Projects!

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on community health? Are you skilled in stakeholder engagement, fostering collaboration and driving initiatives that benefit individuals and communities? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the Healthy Cities Illawarra team as a Community Collaboration Facilitator, Asthma Projects.

This is a new position, funded by Asthma Australia through the Pearl Sheppard Fund.

About Us:

Healthy Cities Illawarra operates in the Local Government Areas of Kiama, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven and Wollongong. It was established in 1987 as one of three, three-year pilot projects, with funding from the Commonwealth Government as part of a World Health Organisation Initiative. 

We are dedicated to addressing underlying social, economic and environmental causes of health inequality and working in partnership with local government, health care providers and other community organisations to prevent chronic disease and deliver meaningful health and wellbeing outcomes for our community.

Your Role:

As the Community Collaboration Facilitator, Asthma Projects, you will play a pivotal role in driving our efforts to create an Asthma Smart Community. Your responsibilities will include:

  • High level project oversight and all aspects of project management including planning, communication, facilitation, budget management, delivery, reporting and evaluation.
  • Collaborating with community stakeholders, healthcare professionals, and organizations to champion collective impact and develop strategic alliances that will result in better outcomes for people with asthma.
  • Facilitating workshops, training sessions, and community events aimed at increasing understanding of asthma management and prevention strategies.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with local schools, healthcare providers, advocacy groups, and government agencies to advocate for consumer voices and systemic change to improve asthma-friendly environments.
  • Conducting outreach and engagement activities to reach underserved populations, CALD and First Nations communities and promote access to resources and support services.

What We're Looking For: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual with a strong commitment to community health and wellbeing. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, community development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in community engagement, project management, and partnership development.
  • Knowledge of asthma management principles, public health best practices, and health promotion strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse stakeholders and facilitate collaborative efforts.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and/or First Nations communities is highly desirable.
