Location:Silverwater Parole Unit

Employment Type: Ongoing Permanent - Full Time: Monday - Friday + Flex Time

Salary: $93, 295 -$109,194 pa + Superannuation - Annual Leave Loading

Your role

As a Community Corrections Officer you will sit in a Correctional Centre within the Silverwater Complex and will be required to work across all centres on-site. Whilst you will be subject to Correctional Centre Policy and Procedures (including no mobile phones, biometric entry/exit, random drug and alcohol testing, dress code and restrictions on items being bought into the centre), you will benefit from having direct access to Inmates, stakeholders, and services.

You will embed evidence-based practices across all areas of your work and target responses to the areas that will allow the greatest impacts to be made with the Inmates you are working with.

What we're looking for

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • High level verbal and written communication skills, including interviewing skills.
  • High level negotiation, conflict resolution and analytical skills
  • Experience or knowledge of court processes, prosecutions, or related areas
  • An ability to provide human services in needs assessment and development of interventions.
  • Capability to provide evidence-based advice and recommendations to the court that maximise offender responsiveness to interventions.
  • An ability to manage offenders exhibiting challenging behaviours and escalate as required.
  • Ability to managing competing priorities and work within strict timeframes.

  • Working with a diverse range of stakeholders including Serious Offenders Review Council (SORC), Justice Health (JH), Service and Programs, Case Management, Psychologists, DCJ Housing, Police, NGO's, NDIS, Child Protection Unit, and many more
  • Providing advice to releasing authorities including State Parole Authority, Attorney Generals.

About Us

Silverwater Parole Unit is a large Community Corrections office within the Metropolitan West District it oversees the releases of inmates over four correctional centres and one transitional centre. There are parole offices at four of the five centres. These centres vary in levels of security and type of inmates housed.

Successful candidates will be mandated to undertake a four-week, in-person training program at our Brush Farm Academy as an integral component of the Certificate IV in Correctional Practice curriculum.
