About the role:
Multicultural Futures have created a new role to support the Community Education and information session components of our mental health work.
The Community Education Facilitator (CAF) works with the Program Manager Mental Health to develop and deliver Community Education sessions, with a specific focus on people from migrant and refugee backgrounds, to build their knowledge and capacity about and in supporting people impacted by mental health issues.
Contracted mental health programs are currently delivered across the Perth metropolitan area and the CEF will be expected to build and maintain partnerships with local government and community groups (among others) to build capacity in those community groups on challenges arising from mental ill-health. This position is critical to impacting community knowledge about Multicultural Futures mental health programs, and to positively impact referrals into the services.
The CEF encompasses stakeholder engagement, development of education materials, facilitation and community presentation initiatives. The CEF works closely with the mental health team and reports directly to the Program Manager Mental Health.
Position Specific Duties
- Develops presentations and required collateral for the facilitation of mental health and wellbeing Community Education sessions.
- Delivers Community Education sessions on mental health and wellbeing initiatives.
- Provides information sessions to internal and external stakeholders on mental health programs.
- Attends relevant events to provide information on mental health programs to community.
- Develops and maintains relationships with relevant stakeholders, to improve referrals into the mental health programs, specifically MHAS.
- Collect statistics and prepare internal reports as required.
- Provide regular performance reports against agreed targets.
What you will need:
- Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, counselling or equivalent
- Cert IV Training and Assessment (highly regarded)
- Demonstrated facilitation skills
- Demonstrated experience working in the mental health industry
- Demonstrated experience working with people from a refugee or migrant background
- Understanding of barriers to change for people from a refugee or migrant background with mental health and/or alcohol and other drug issues.
- Evidence of well-developed communication skills - both verbal and written
- Strong time management skills
- Satisfactory Police Clearance (less than 6 months old)
- Current Working With Children Check
