Our Branch
City Resilience protects Brisbane, making it safer and more resilient. This is done through planning, coordination, partnering and engagement activities across all phases of disaster and emergency management.
The Role
The role of Community Preparedness and Resilience Officer sits within the Community Preparedness Team in City Resilience Branch. The purpose of this role is to engage and enable the community of Brisbane to be disaster resilient and to build community recovery capability. This includes raising awareness of disaster resilience, delivery of Council's 'Be Prepared' campaign, and developing the knowledge and skills that support disaster recovery.
This role requires active participation in the City Resilience Branch Duty Officer roster and undergo essential training. This includes an on-call roster (approximately 1 week every 6 weeks), reasonable after-hours activities and overtime when required by business needs and/or disaster events.
The right person for this role will:
- manage the distribution of funding received from the Queensland Government's 'Get Ready' program to deliver Council's 'Be Prepared' campaign
- develop disaster resilience collateral and engagement activities to be delivered to the Brisbane community
- deliver engaging presentations and events, enabling the community to learn more about how to be prepared and stay safe during natural disaster events
- collaborate with other teams across Council to develop community awareness and education campaigns.
The most suitable candidate for this role will have:
- highly developed skills and knowledge in communications and community engagement strategies
- knowledge of and experience in preparing applications and associated reporting for funding
- highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with representatives from diverse organisations and elected officials.
