Program Overview
The Outreach Service has a primary goal of providing a mobile hub for health, support, referral, information dissemination, and educational outreach. We aim to extend our assistance to individuals within our society who are currently facing or are at risk of experiencing negative consequences of homelessness, as well as those grappling with issues related to alcohol and substance misuse. Our overarching mission is to actively engage, encourage, and empower individuals toward adopting healthier lifestyles.
To fulfil this mission, the Outreach Service has set key objectives:
- Enhance the safety of individuals of homelessness.
- Contribute to the reduction of homelessness by facilitating connections to appropriate support agencies
- Connect service users with suitable resources to aid in their recovery journey while raising awareness about the potential risks associated with alcohol and substance use.
- Promote the overall health and well-being of service users through informative and educational initiatives.
Operating beyond traditional business hours, our service extends its outreach efforts to individuals in the inner-city community. We are available to assist and engage from
Monday to Saturday, operating from 6.30pm to 10pm.
Position Overview
The position will be responsible for leading our Brisbane Street Outreach Service night shift, where we bring essential services to the homeless. As the Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in engaging, encouraging and empowering both service users and those experiencing homelessness through mobile support, referrals and educational services by leading a team of volunteers at designated inner-city locations,
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to
- Vehicle Preparation: Ensuring the readiness of our service vehicle
- Volunteer Briefing: Provide comprehensive guidance to volunteers before their shifts
- Van Operation: Take charge of the vehicle’s security, parking and overall function
- Shift Coordination: Managing various aspects during the shift, such as logging on and off, obtaining coordinator approval for shift cancellations, addressing the need to relocate from a site and considering other critical factors.
- Volunteer Support: Offering assistance and guidance to volunteers throughout their shift
- Compliance and Reporting: Uphold organisational standards and promptly reporting and concerns related to volunteer conduct, presentation, or interactions with service recipients. Additionally, ensuring that the SOS Coordinator and Operations Manager are briefed on ‘Risk of Harm’ issues, client incidents, accidents and completing relevant reports.
- Safety and Policy Adherence: Proactively adhering to Drug ARM policies and procedures to guarantee the smooth operations of shifts, prioritising the safety of both team members and service recipients.
- Reporting: Providing comprehensive shift reports to coordinator via Deputy data entry at conclusion of each shift.
Your role as Team Leader is instrumental in ensuring the success of our Street Outreach Service, offering vital support to those in need within the community while maintain the highest standards of service and safety.
