Deaf Connect have had a productive couple of years which sees them today with an Australian wide representation. This not-for-profit organisation has a vacancy for a Company Secretary. The position reports into the Board's Chair and Chief Executive Officer to deliver Deaf Connect's corporate governance and strategic goals, in line with leading governance practices. This position entails:
Facilitating the company’s corporate governance processes and holding primary responsibility for ensuring that all board processes run efficiently and effectively.
Providing support and high quality advice to the Board of Directors on matters of corporate governance, Board, and Board Committee operations.
Knowledge of ASIC and ACNC regulations, Australian Charity, and Company Law in terms of governance and risk and the regulatory environment including familiarity with obligations imposed by the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth).
We are seeking a candidate with the following attributes:
Relevant Business Qualifications;
Sound understanding of company legislation as well as experience overseeing board processes and procedures;
High level interpersonal and communication skills including experience communicating with Senior Executives and Boards of Management both verbally and in writing;
Demonstrated ability to provide practical advice and exercise sound judgment within a complex regulatory environment and across multiple issues;
Demonstrated experience in dealing with or advising on organisational compliance issues that relate to sound governance of the entity, relevant to the sector and industry in which Deaf Connect operates;
Demonstrated expertise in the applicable principles of corporate governance (including those which impact statutory bodies, not for profits and charities) and the ability to apply them;
Demonstrated experience in corporate risk management;
Ability to use Auslan or an openness to learn Auslan; and
Well developed organisation skills, including the ability to ensure deadlines are met by all stakeholders.
Candidates who have completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Course and those with an understanding of the accreditation frameworks in the disability sector including NDIS will be highly regarded.
