About the role:
The position is responsible for providing expert Condition Monitoring and technical support for the fleet of locomotives Progress Rail supports across Australia.
Experience:
• Advanced trade qualifications with significant Condition Monitoring experience (oil analysis, vibration analysis and/or thermography) in a similar position, or formal mechanical engineering qualifications with at least introductory experience in Condition Monitoring.
• Demonstrated understanding for the operation and maintenance of large off-highway diesel engines.
• Previous Asset Management and / or Rail Industry experience would be highly regarded
• Experience in developing engineering reports to a high level of technical detail.
• Must demonstrate the ability of effective time management and organisational skills

Specific:
• Administer the locomotive Condition Monitoring database for oil analysis and vibration monitoring, identifying trends and outliers which may indicate areas of concern.
• Build Progress Rails capabilities in locomotive and component vibration monitoring, developing overhaul and in service limits, identifying trends and outliers which may indicate areas of concern.
• As part of a broader team develop Progress Rails capabilities in using on board data gathering equipment and predictive analytics to monitor locomotive health, identifying trends and outliers which may indicate areas of concern.
• Initiate and monitor work orders for remedial actions based on Condition Monitoring activities.
• Report on remedial activities and overdue sampling with the maintenance and planning teams.
• Leading root cause fault investigations into engine and mechanical system failures for both internal and customer distribution.
• Assist with and mentor technical / engineering staff on Root Cause Analysis and failure reporting.
• Assist with and mentor technical / engineering staff in Condition Monitoring practices.
• Identifying new initiatives and directions in Condition Monitoring and precision maintenance.
• Develop Strategies and recommendations to improve fleet reliability and maintenance effectiveness
• Assist with the review and development of Technical Maintenance Plans for locomotive fleets
• Assist with the development of work instructions to ensure consistent results while eliminating unsafe work practices
• Ability to train and mentor personnel to perform job related duties including safety, company and regulatory rule
• Ability to solve customer problems quickly and effectively
• Interface with the customer to report on Condition Monitoring performance, failure investigations and provide technical information.
• Ability to travel interstate on occasions to be part of first person investigation teams, field testing or support of maintenance activities.
