JOB OPPORTUNITY AT THE EMBASSY OF SWEDEN

Consular Assistant (full-time position)

The Embassy of Sweden in Canberra is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual with high level interpersonal and communication skills to cover a position as Consular assistant at the Embassy.

The main job tasks of this positions are:

  • Advise and assist Swedish citizens – including but not limited to - welfare and whereabouts cases, arrest and detention, deportation, hospitalization, repatriation and death.
  • Liaise with public and local authorities and agencies in accordance with consular instruction.
  • Management of consular cases, including managing a database, in accordance with consular instructions
  • Execute notarial acts within Swedish government requirements.
  • Respond to general enquiries on a range of issues including Birth, Deaths and Marriages and Swedish Driving Licenses.
  • Respond to more complex enquiries relating to Consular matters.
  • Assists with updating of travel advisories and consular contingency plans.
  • Passport Officer (subject of having Swedish citizenship)
  • Assisting in other office duties as requested by the management.
  • Secondary responsibility for ‘Migration Assistant.

Qualifications and skills required for this position.

  • Australian citizenship or residents with a working permit and holding a Swedish citizenship.
  • Minimum Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or equivalent. Preferably with additional studies in public affairs and/or 1-2 years relevant work experiences
  • Sound knowledge of operation of public authorizes in Australia and Sweden (Scandinavia) will be considered an asset.
  • Completely proficient in written and oral Swedish & English language.

The candidate should also have:

  • Ability to carry out administrative organization tasks in a busy and changing environment.
  • Quick learning abilities and adaptability to the use of new computer tools.
  • Work under minimum supervision, organize workloads and resources effectively.
