Consultant
The role consists of providing advice to exploration and mining companies within the resources industry. The role offers great potential for growth with clear career advancement, and scope for progression to a Solicitor role alongside a Consultant position. We are looking for a motivated and proactive individual, willing to learn, work independently and as part of the team. The role is suitable for a candidate with relevant experience in the resources sector, or law graduate with an interest in the resources industry. The role will combine work from all jurisdictions throughout Australia with a focus on Western Australia.
Responsibilities include:
- Liaise with clients directly and manage client tenement portfolios including ensuring obligations are met;
- Undertake interpretation of legislation and policies to deliver concise advice to clients in relation to mining and exploration operations;
- Provide advice in relation to existing mining assets, as well as the acquisition of, disposal or amalgamation of mining assets;
- Administrative non-legal responsibilities associated with, and ancillary to, the maintenance of companies mining assets portfolio;
- Regulatory and compliance reporting, monitoring tenements, preparation of applications, renewals and objections;
- Diverse workload incorporating mining law, environmental law, planning law, Native Title, property law, contract law, land management processes, and other disciplines.
About you
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong prioritisation skills and ability to manage competing tasks;
- Strong projects management skills;
- A desire to develop and grow a professional career in the resources industry;
- An interest in relevant legal fields including mining, Native Title, contract law and property law in a variety of jurisdictions across Australia. While prior experience in any of these fields may be looked upon favourably, it is not essential;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills essential, as well as an ability to tailor correspondence to a variety of clientele ranging from small private entities to top-tier publicly listed companies;
- Proactive and positive attitude towards tasks;
- Ability to work both as part of a team and independently with limited supervision;
- Able to show professionalism and commitment to learning;
- While a law degree or prior corporate experience is favourable, it is not essential.
