- Full time permanent employment contract with a leading public sector healthcare organisation

- preference to surgeons with an interest and/or sub-specialty in spinal surgery or paediatric orthopaedic surgery.

The department of orthopaedic surgery is accredited by the RACS for basic and advanced training and its scope of practice is broad encompassing the full range of acute and elective surgery and trauma management. It is staffed by seven Orthopaedic Specialists, a Medical Officer, 9 Registrars (two are on the national training program) and House Officers.
Responsibilities
- provide service in general Orthopaedic and trauma surgery.
- partake in the general on-call roster and contribute to management of trauma and other acute Orthopaedic presentations.
- provision of primary knee and hip joint replacement services
- the spine service will be the management of trauma, decompression and stabilisation of the spine surgery. You will be part of a regional spinal surgeon network where you will find adequate collegial support.
- expand the paediatric orthopaedic service working with the local paediatric surgeon local in liaison with tertiary Starship hospital in Auckland
- Teach and supervise resident medical officers (RMOs)
- Contribute to this hospital's wider medical team as an active and collaborative member.
- Medical Degree recognised by WHO
- FRACS or equivalent specialist qualification in orthopaedic surgery
- Subspecialist or fellowship training in paediatric orthopaedic surgery or spinal surgery preferred
- Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or be eligible for vocational or provisional vocational registration
- Salary ASMS scale for 40 hour week
- 6 weeks annual leave
