Work in a 180-bed hospital with all the specialities you would expect of a Rural/Regional Hospital, providing a diverse mix of elective and emergency cases with support from a tertiary centre. The hospital serves the local coastal and inland communities and surrounding districts, approximately 100,000 people over 3,732 km2The hospital has undergone significant redevelopment following a $140 million investment with a further $100M recently allocated to further expansion.You will join a full-time Palliative Care Specialist (available throughout the week Mon-Fri). To provide a specialist-led inpatient consult liaison service supported by specialist nursing staff and a registrar.There is a community Palliative Care nursing-led service providing support to the region with medical governance of the local private hospital Palliative Care consult liaison service.There is potential for the provision of outpatient clinics. You will find strong links with the district-wide Health Service and support networks statewide.The Department is accredited for an Advanced Skilled Post (ACCRM/RACGP) and Diploma of Palliative Care (RACP).There is a well-established relationship with the University of Newcastle’s Department of Rural Health which teaches in Years 3-5 of the Joint Medical Program. Appointment as a conjoint academic is encouraged (level commensurate with qualifications and experience).
The Job
- As a Consultant Palliative of Care, you will provide expertise in clinical management and treatment of Palliative Care patients as part of an established specialist-led Palliative Care team
- A diverse range of Palliative Care presentations and opportunity to contribute to the growth of an expanding department
- You will provide specialist palliative medicine support and education to clinicians across multiple disciplines
- You will commit to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and supervision and participate in quality activities, professional development, and continuing education
- You should be familiar with the five phases of Palliative Care and be well-versed in the best evidence approach to managing patients across the spectrum of Palliative Care presentations
