Position Profile: The Discipline of Anatomical Pathology is actively seeking the appointment of a highly qualified, enthusiastic, and experienced Consultant Pathologist. Preferably, the candidate should possess specialised expertise in lymphoma and molecular pathology. We are also open to considering individuals with subspecialty interests in various other areas, including neuropathology, cytopathology, breast pathology, GI pathology, and endocrine and/or head and neck pathology.
The Anatomical Pathology Discipline provides state-wide public histo-and cytopathology services, and the laboratories are co-located in Fiona Stanley Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital. PathWest Anatomical Pathology laboratory processes more than 90,000 surgical and 50,000 cytology cases annually and provides a full range of diagnostic services in histopathology, cytopathology, electron microscopy, molecular pathology, and autopsy services to the wider WA community. In addition, large numbers of consultation cases are referred each year by pathologists from within WA and interstate.
The Anatomical Pathology Discipline at PathWest stands out as one of the country's exceptionally specialised departments, boasting expertise in various subspecialties. Our team, guided by senior pathologists, excels in subspecialised areas such as lymphoma pathology, renal pathology, breast pathology, cytopathology, head and neck pathology, endocrine pathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, soft tissue and bone pathology, genitourinary pathology, neuropathology, paediatric pathology, pulmonary pathology, cardiovascular pathology, and molecular pathology.
This wealth of subspecialty knowledge ensures our ability to deliver the most precise and accurate diagnostic services. The subspecialised service optimizes registrar training and promotes research and development in all areas of subspecialty. The molecular laboratory is specialised in DNA and RNA-based testing of tumours using cutting edge technologies for the purposes of accurate diagnosis, prognostication, and prediction of response to tumour-specific therapies.
The molecular lab also performs comprehensive genomic profiling using large cancer panels and the comprehensive diagnostic and clinical services provided by the Anatomical Pathology Discipline can be browsed on-line at .
The appointee will be highly motivated, will have demonstrated ability to work harmoniously as part of a large team of Anatomical Pathologists and will provide a responsive, best practice, client focussed service. The appointee will share the Department's strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, to continuing education, and to applied clinical research in pathology. There is a strong focus on registrar training.
