You are someone with a lived experience of mental illness who will provide support to consumer experiencing suicidal ideation and behaviours
You will develop a trusting relationship with consumers by offering companionship, empathy and empowerment, so that feelings of isolation and rejection can be replaced with hope, a sense of feeling safe and a belief in personal control.
- Participate in discussions with the HOPE team regarding the care required to support consumer with their recovery.
- Contribute to the planning of appropriate supports
- Provide a high level of support to identified consumers
- Actively uphold a culture of hope by using optimistic language supporting people and celebrating consumers efforts
Your Contribution
- A lived experience of mental illness and demonstrated capacity to skillfully use your knowledge and experience of mental health challenges and recovery to support consumers
- An understanding of the diversity of the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of our community, and the impact this has on consumers’ and families and carers’ experience of mental illness
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including problem solving ability and conflict resolution skills, as well as sound oral and writing skills
- Current National criminal history check, or willing to obtain

The HOPE (Hospital Outreach Post Suicide Engagement) team accepts referrals from both within and external to the organisation and provides a three months psychosocial package of care based on recovery principles. The team is multi-disciplinary with specialist training to support consumers. Please read the Position Description for more information.
