CSIRO has three opportunities (two indefinite and one 3-year term) for you to join our Commercial Contracts Team. The successful applicants will be responsible for the preparation, drafting and negotiation of lower-risk research / IP-related contracts, the provision of advice to research staff on appropriate contracting pathways, and other associated paralegal services for an allocated internal client base.

Contract Managers appointed through this advertising campaign are likely to support our Health & Biosecurity, Manufacturing, or Oceans & Atmosphere Business Units with contract matters related to CSIRO science delivery, or the CSIRO Industry PhD program (iPhD) working closely with CSIRO researchers and support staff, universities, industry parties and members of the iPhD program to ensure projects are appropriately set up and contracted. An interest in at least one of those areas is desirable.

NOTE – this role does not involve procurement-based contracts so may not suit procurement professionals.

Your duties will include:

• Matter management, including initial ‘triage’ role (first point of contact for research staff with contracting queries) and subsequent tracking of contracts under negotiation;
• Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a variety of standard and non-standard research related agreements, such as Confidentiality, Consulting Services, Testing, Funding, Research, Grants, Sub-contracts, Data Licence, Copyright, Material Transfer, Student and Visitor Agreements and variations to same.
• Providing advice to research staff on appropriate contracting pathways, agreement selection and other lower-risk contract matters. Enlisting CSIRO Legal / Business Development/ IP professionals’ input to decisions as required.
• Providing input to appropriate contract approval documentation for approval by delegate(s) and arranging execution of agreements, distribution to relevant parties, recording in CSIRO systems etc.
• Liaising with Research, Finance, Business Development, Legal, and IP staff to promote and facilitate a smooth end-to-end customer-focused contracting process.

Salary: AU$87k - AU$98k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Tenure: 2x Full-time Indefinite and 1x Full-time 3 year specified Term Opportunities.

To be considered you will need:

• Tertiary Legal qualificationsor relevant experience in the drafting and amendment of contract terms and conditions.
• A history of professional and respectful behaviours, with a proactive, collaborative, and inclusive working style, and a willingness/ability to cooperate with others to achieve goals.
• Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity and adapt to changing circumstances and new responsibilities.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including an ability to clearly communicate contractual issues and risks to relevant stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrated high level analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively identify and solve problems and make sound judgements.
• Demonstrated high level organisational skills with an ability to manage a high volume of work and constantly changing priorities.
