Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.Job DescriptionWe are currently seeking Control Room Operators at our Aquila operation in Middlemount, QLD.As a Control Room Operator you will play a key role in monitoring the mine environment and communicating changes and actions for safe response. You will be responsible for coordinating all activities on a shift by shift basis with a crew covering seven days per week.Reporting to the Compliance Superintendent, you will have an intimate knowledge and understanding of the underground coal mining environment, communication systems, emergency response and site safety requirements, and will be able to develop collaborative working relationships across Managers, Superintendents, Process Coordinators, Supervisors and ERZ Controllers.This role will see you provide accurate information to shift at all times, keep the shift MSO's aware of any arising issues encountered on shift, as well as any emergency response required to any incident that evolves on shift.The primary purpose of the Control Room Operator is to manage and control the shift underground communication and monitoring strategies to enable safe and efficient operations to occur. The position also provides the focal point for communication within the mine from a production and safety perspective.The Control Room Operator is required to fulfil the duties as required by the relevant Emergency Response duty card; this specifies that the position provides the communication / recording function during a significant incident.Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge Safegas, citect/SCADA.
- Working knowledge of underground coal mining operations
- Previous experience in a Underground Coal Mine Control Room Operators role
- Gas chromatograph competency
- Advanced level of computer literacy, particularly with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Exceptional attention to detail and the initiative to follow up on results to ensure accuracy and timeliness of work
- Proven ability to effectively work within a team environment
- You will also hold expert knowledge of emergency response and first aid equipment with a strong commitment to health and safety standards
- Advanced/Senior First Aid Certificate - preferred
- Experience with Weather Guard, lightning tracker software, Minedash desired but not essential
- Excellent communication skills are required
