Improve IO is a Perth based company specialising in automation and control. Our main clientele are mines and mineral processing plants within Western Australia. We are a small group of Automation specialists looking for another Control Systems Engineer to join our passionate team.
The core business of Improve IO is on-site automation support and project commissioning. A secondary focus is hardware and software development. At Improve IO you will have the opportunity to assist in developing in-house solutions from scratch and be part of a unique team of professionals.
Job description
The services we offer include:
Maintenance and support for:
- DCS and PLC systems
- Historians and databases
- Advanced Control Systems
Fault finding:
- Instrumentation
- PLC programs
Turn-key projects:
- Electrical panel manufacturing
- Custom instrumentation
Duties
The role will be a “fly in, fly out” role from Perth. The roster will depend on the client’s requirement at the time. Currently our clients mostly require swings that are “8days on, 6days off”.
A typical day will include:
- Making changes and improvements to:
- PLC/DCS systems
- Historians
- HMI’s
- Assisting the maintenance department in fault finding problems escalated from the client’s teams:
- Essentially looking into the underlying code in the PLC to assist in the fault-finding efforts.
- Root cause analysis of the underlining problem.
- Working with the metallurgical department in implementing changes to the plant control system to aid them in improving recovery/throughput/efficiency.
- Client site visit reports.
- Solution proposals, scoping and reviews.
- Electrical and Instrumentation drawings.
- Manuals for developed products and implementations.
- Review and manage standards, procedures and work methods.
- Remote Client Support:
- Responding to client emails and requests.
- Remote login into systems for emergency support if on standby.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with a genuine passion for automation. A lot of the work we do, especially the development of new systems or products, can be very rewarding for someone who has a keen interest in automation and control.
Skills and qualifications
Core Skills for the role (advanced level in the following):
- PLC programming
- Emerson (PAC ME) will be advantageous
- SCADA development
- GE Cimplicity Experiense will be advantageous
- Historian support
- Industrial communication protocols
- Instrumentation
Other desirable skills:
- Programming: C++, C#, Python, JavaScript, etc
- Linux command line programming
Required miscellaneous:
- Police clearance on request
- Drug and alcohol test on request
