Open Place is a support service for ‘Forgotten Australians’/Victorian pre 1990 CareLeavers and coordinates and provides direct assistance to address the needs and issues of people who grew up in ‘care’. Open Place helps people to deal with the legacy of their childhood experiences and to support them to improve their health and wellbeing.
The role
Reporting to the Senior Manager at Open Place, your responsibilities include leading and delivering an education program to inform the wider community, including service providers and educational institutions about the history, circumstances and needs of Forgotten Australians. You will also provide education sessions/programs to service providers and educational institutions at conferences, network meetings and specifically organised forums, and work collaboratively with other senior staff at Open Place to identiy mainstream and specialist services that are used by Forgotten Australians and ensure they understand and can respond to the needs of forgotten Australians.
This opportunity is located at our Bromham – Open Place Centre and is a permanent full-time position.
About you
- A relevant tertiary qualification or extensive experience in Community Education.
- Demonstrated (and preferably “lived”) experience, knowledge and understanding of the challenges and difficulties faced by Forgotten Australians today.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in developing training and education material using adult learning principles.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with service users, community groups, professional groups and organisations.
- Demonstrated capacity to work relatively autonomously to manage competing priorities and to meet timeframes as well as organisational objectives.

The base salary range is $100k to $107k per annum.
